Be Still

Posted on February 20, 2018 by Dara

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 46:10 (NKJV)

Quiet is hard to come by these days. Even when all of the technology is turned off, our minds still may be filled with noise.

The Passion Translation says it this way,

“Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God. I am the God above all the nations, and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.”

When we trust God, we will be peaceful; striving is a sure sign we are not resting in His care for us.

Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the wilderness. By the time they got to the Red Sea, Pharaoh and his army were closing in and the Israelites feared the worst. The Israelites forgot all of the miracles God had already performed and the way He had taken care of them. They began to cry out in fear.

But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.

The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

Exodus 14:13, 14 (NLT)

The Lord instructed Moses to part the sea and the Israelites walked through on dry ground. As soon as they were on the other side, and the Egyptian army was in the midst of the sea, the waters returned to their usual place and drowned the Egyptians. God took care of His people once again.

God still takes care of His people today. There is no need to be anxious or strive to take care of ourselves. No matter what we are facing, we can be still and know He is our God.
